Spring, is that you?!

Hello everyone! How are you all doing? As always, I hope that you’re having a lovely weekend and managing to take some very much deserved r&r.  I’d also like to say thank you SO MUCH for the very kind and warm response on my last blog-post - if you haven’t had the chance to read it yet, you can find the post here; I chat all about my lack of creative direction at the moment, and the challenges that lockdown is currently presenting.

In all honesty, I was a bit nervous about what the response would be to that post - it was definitely more personal and didn’t have much sense of structure, so I worried that it wouldn’t land that well.  But, in actual fact, it’s been one of my more widely read posts - so thank you very much!  It seems that you guys like it when I bear a bit more of myself on this wee corner of the internet; I’ll definitely keep that in mind, and is how I’m approaching this post too.

Not much has changed since the last post, to be honest.  I’m still feeling like I’m stuck in a wee bit of a rut and don’t have much in the way of ‘fashion content’ to update you on.  I’m still filling my time doing much the same as everyone else right now; exciting trips to the supermarket (...!), catching up on good tv, going out on lengthy walks, drinking copious amounts of caffeine, and trying to engage my mind on something that isn't a global pandemic.  Ya know, the usual.

I had a long weekend off of work last week and spent most of it with a headache, which was a real pain in the ass (or head).  The headache finally cleared on Monday, so I decided to get myself up and go for a walk on my own.  Armed with my back-pack, headphones, flask of water and chocolate digestives, I set off on a really beautiful walk through the countryside.  The weather was GLORIOUS - so glorious that at one point, I actually had to take my jacket off.  People that live in Scotland will realise how much of a treat that is in MARCH (!!). As I was walking along, I really was trying to take in as much as possible.  I don’t know about you, but I feel so much more aware of the change of seasons since we’ve been living in lockdown.  Going out on a walk everyday has really driven that sense of awareness for me, and is something I’m pretty grateful for.

The warmer weather has got me excited for SPRING!! Hello baby animals, hello longer periods of daylight, hello flowers - goodbye frozen digits, goodbye snow, goodbye dry skin, goodbye winter wardrobe!  Speaking of wardrobes (great transition from moi there), how are we all feeling about moving in to our spring get-ups? I for one am very happy about a couple of things, but first - the blog pics!!

  • Being able to take more of the obligatory garden pictures again (I know you all missed them…!).

  • Being able to wear my (faux) leather jacket more regularly.  This is one of the most cherished and loved pieces in my wardrobe.  It just feels like ‘me’, and I don’t think I’ll ever be without a leather jacket.  I tend to opt for the biker jacket style (with the buckles and zip detailing).  This beauty is from Zara; had it for a couple of years, but think it’s actually still in stock (link below). I like my leather jackets to be slightly oversized, so went for a medium here and it fits perfectly.

  • Also excited to be able to break out my collection of canvas trainers again and wear them regularly - converse, vans, supergas; I’ve missed you.

An aim over the course of the next few months is to try and inject a bit more colour and fun into my wardrobe.  I feel like I’ve been watching too many fashion videos on TikTok - but I’m loving all of the bold use of colour and pattern around at the moment.  Like a lot of other people, I have my eyes on House of Sunny … Anyway, I’ll always be a lover of neutral/monochrome pieces, but I might try to dip my toe into the world of colour a little bit more going forward .. watch out for a blog-post on this soon!

Moving on to some other things that I’ve been loving recently, I wanted to update you on my tv and music recommendations;

On the screen;

I have to mention The Great Pottery Throw Down again, because it just makes me so happy.  I’d really love to try my hand at pottery one day (when we’re able to) - whilst I’m not artistically gifted in any real way, I think I’d love that process of making.  It’s so tactile and involved! I also just want to be able to make Keith cry one day.  Anyway - you can catch the full series on All4.

Another interesting programme that I’ve been watching recently is Trump Takes on the World, on BBC Iplayer.  It comes in 3 parts, and focuses on Trump’s foreign policy.  There are loads of really interesting and astounding behind the scenes accounts of his behaviour, and really helps to cement the fact that he is a corrupt & evil narcissist.  I’d recommend it!

I watched A Star is Born for the first time this week.  I know - I’m very late to the party on this one.  I’m just going to say that there were TEARS (particularly for the last 10 minutes of the film).

Finally - I’m putting this out there as a reminder to myself (and to anyone else that’s interested); Jordan Peele’s film Us is now available on Netflix.  I’ve heard really incredible things about this film and will absolutely be watching it at the first available opportunity.

On spotify;

Here’s the link to my Spotify playlist for you guys to have a listen to - enjoy!

So guys, that’s me for another week.  I really hope that you’re enjoying this new, less structured and more personal style to my blog-posts.  It feels really nice to sit down and write with only a vague sense of where the piece is going to go.  I’ve always said that writing feels both cathartic and therapeutic; if you’ve not tried it already, I’d highly recommend it.  I’ll be back in a couple of weeks time with the next installment - who knows what it’ll be about (I like to keep you guessing!).

Remember - you can catch me over on my social media channels, where I post fairly regular updates in between blog-posts.  All of the links can be found on the top right hand side of this page.  Instagram is probably my most used social media platform, but I’ve also recently uploaded my first ever TikTik (who do I think I am!).  My username is emccartney_ if you fancy giving me a follow.

Thanks again everyone.  Speak soon, and lots of love!
