Brain Fog
Hello everybody – happy Sunday! How are you all doing? Apologies for the radio silence on here over the last few weeks. As you all know – it’s a strange time right now and I think we’re all going through the various motions with lockdown life. The monotony of day-to-day life at the moment has definitely presented me with its challenges when it comes to my blog; how do I keep the content fresh and exciting, when in reality, there’s really not that much going on (and I spend most of my life in sweatpants). Similarly, I don’t want to get in to the habit of buying lots of new things just for the sake of it. Anyone else buying things just to ‘feel something’ right now?! I know that I’ve certainly been guilty of this and am really trying to pull back.
So, after a few weeks of worrying about my lack of creative direction (ew) and feeling a bit like a lost pup, I thought - that’s plenty! That in itself is a pretty freeing feeling – it’s so much better to not put too much pressure on the things that you do in order to bring fun & joy to your life (this blog does that for me). Comparing myself to others who have been doing this for years is SUCH a waste of my energy. I mean, who isn’t feeling a bit lost right now?
I then thought … why don’t I just … write about how I’m actually feeling instead? So here I am, with a bit of a brain fog blog-post, with no real structure, and no real ‘fashion content’ as such. What ya gonna do?! I figured that a lot of people will be feeling the same way about things right now, so let’s wallow together and have a virtual hug.
Waking up this morning, I thought that I’d make a wee bit more of an effort with my get-up. Putting on a nice outfit and sticking a bit of makeup on does help to set me up for the day, and I thought that it would spur me on to get a blog-post written and some pictures taken alongside it! So with that in mind, I decided to opt for my favourite roll neck and knitted vest combo.
If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you’ve probably seen both of these items before (separately), but I thought that they worked quite well together. The roll neck is from M&S and has become a staple in my wardrobe over the autumn-winter months. Alongside that, the knitted vest is H&M. I really have had so much wear out of this. Now that the weather is becoming *slightly* milder (after the crazy onslaught of snow that the UK has just had to endure), it’s been so nice to be able to reach for this again. I decided to pair it with my trusty & Other Stories jeans. Also, I know what you’re all thinking .. photos that aren’t in the conservatory or garden? YES INDEED! I thought that I’d keep you all on your toes and take some shots in front of our bookshelves instead. Let’s see where I pick next – oh the suspense!
As is becoming tradition with my blog-posts, I thought that it would be nice to update you all on some things I’ve been loving recently – I’ve got some tv & music recommendations for you to get your teeth in to;
On the screen;
After 8 fantastic series, I have now finished Spiral. I genuinely think that the last season may have been the best. The twists, the turns, the SUSPENSE!! For those of you that haven’t yet had the pleasure of watching Spiral, it’s a French crime drama set in Paris. If you’re in to fast paced thrillers (with subtitles), then do give it a go. All 8 series are over on iPlayer.
As well as that, I’ve just started watching The League of Gentlemen for the millionth time. It’s a pretty tough one to explain - those who have seen it will know what I mean. It’s a dark comedy set
in a small fictional town (somewhere in Yorkshire I imagine) and follows the lives of the very strange residents that live there. As I say – it’s pretty dark and bizarre, but you really can see where the inspiration came from. There are an alarming amount of similarities between the fictional Royston Vasey and a real rural town. It really does depict ‘small town mentality’ at its most extreme, in a really hilarious way.
Finally, I can’t not mention It’s A Sin. I know that there’s been a lot of hype surrounding this show, and my god it’s warranted. It is genuinely a really profound and important piece of television. Be prepared to laugh, sob, think and question. You can catch the full thing on All 4.
On Spotify;
Rather than just listing all of the tunes I’ve been loving recently, I thought that it would be nice for me to put together a Spotify playlist that you can dip in and out of. I’ll continue to add to this whenever a new song or album HITS. Here’s the link – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/47Qiz88CR4uH0HHoffBOR5?si=JuSTI2ZdTsaayhTK3quHbQ
Give it a whirl and let me know what you think. Hoping there’s something for everyone there!
So there we have it guys – a bit of an odd one this week I’m afraid. It actually felt really good to get these thoughts down on paper. There is definitely something cathartic about writing for me – it helps to put things in to perspective, and order. If anyone else is feeling a bit stuck in a rut recently or is needing to talk – please know that I’m always here. You are not alone!
Please do keep an eye out for my next post guys – hopefully it’ll be a bit more structured and have a bit more direction, but we’ll just wait and see. I hope that you are all keeping as safe and as well as possible. Thank you as always for coming along to have a read of my blog – it truly does mean the world to me. Similarly, keep an eye out on my other social media channels for more frequent updates (particularly Instagram). Links are on the top right hand side of this page.
Thank you everyone – lots of love,
El xxx
