The Dream Knit & a Catch-Up
Hello everyone and happy Sunday! As ever, I hope you are keeping well and having a lovely weekend (given current circumstances). What have you all been up to? As you can imagine, the last couple of weeks for me have been fairly lowkey and largely made up of walking, working, reading and watching tv.
On that note, I’ve decided to start introducing some passions of mine that lie outside the world of fashion. This might be a book I’ve read, a programme I’ve watched, or music that I’ve listened to. Ya gal is multifaceted with different interests and passions, and I'd like to start sharing them a bit more with you. Here are a couple of things that I’ve been loving;
On the page;
I’m currently working my way through Fellowship of the Ring by Tolkein. It’s a serious endeavour but I’m loving the challenge. I recently finished Natives by Akala, and urge you all to give it a go. So insightful and important. I also just bought an absolutely beautiful book about one of my favourite films, The Grand Budapest Hotel. It includes beautiful imagery, interviews and critical essays. I can't wait to get stuck in.
On the screen;
Top of the list has GOT to be Spiral. For those of you who haven’t heard of it - it’s a French crime drama series which is set in Paris. I mean, what’s not to love. Another new show that I’ve been loving is Bridgerton (surprise surprise). It’s an absolute feast for the eyes and ears.
On Spotify;
I’m still repeatedly listening to my ‘Top Songs of 2020’ playlist which includes so many gems (in my opinion). Otherwise, I’ve actually had the Pride & Prejudice soundtrack on a lot (the film version). It’s made up of really gorgeous classical music which is nice to have on in the background. I actually have it on as I write this.
I hope to update this section again next time, so let me know if you like this wee idea!
So - moving on to the main thread of today’s blog-post, I’m coming at ya with another fashion focused piece, all based around my most recent and much loved purchase - this Alexa Chung cardigan;
I’ve genuinely had my eye on this cardigan for about 6 months - it’s called the ‘Big Stripe Cardigan’ online, and it’s in the lilac colourway. As you’ve probably realised, I’m a real lover of knitwear, and it’s somewhat of an essential clothing item when you live in Scotland! Once I saw that this piece had gone into the sale and my size was available, I knew that I had to pounce, and I’m so so glad that I did.
In terms of styling & fabric - the cardigan is cropped, with slightly ballooned sleeves. The fabrics are 70% Mohair, 15% Wool & 15% Polyamide. All of this means that when you put this on, you’re in for an absolute treat - it’s super soft and super cosy. I was out walking in this the other day (with a jacket and t-shirt on), and was actually TOO warm, which is almost unheard of at this time of year. I tend to style up the cardigan with a simple white t-shirt underneath (like I’ve done here), and my trusty pair of Levi Ribcage Straight Leg jeans.
The cropped cut of the cardigan is really flattering and lends itself perfectly to all things high waisted on your bottom half in my opinion. It creates a really lovely silhouette. I also think that this cardi would look gorgeous with a pair of faux leather trousers with a band t-shirt underneath and chunky boots - or maybe even coupled with an a-line mini skirt when the weather starts to improve! The options are endless, and I can really see myself getting so much wear out of this number. Essentially, you can expect to see it a lot more going forward!
I’ll link the cardigan down below (alongside a link to my jeans), so that you can go on and have a nosey. I think the lilac is currently sold out unfortunately, but there’s still a couple of sizes left in the green version at the time of writing this post. I’m hopeful that more sizes might come back in stock shortly! At any rate, there are loads of amazing pieces on the Alexa Chung website right now, so it’s well worth a browse.
I really hope that you enjoyed this blog-post and got a wee bit of inspiration from it, guys. I'll be back in a couple of weeks with my next instalment. In the meantime, keep an eye over on my other social media channels (particularly Instagram) for more regular updates. The links to my other channels are on the top right hand corner of this page. If you have any ideas for future blog-posts that you'd like to see from me, please feel free to let me know - I'm all ears!
Thank you again for all of the amazing support with my blog. It really means the world.
Lots of love to you all - please take care!
El xx
