Back to Basics
Hello everyone! I hope that you are all keeping well and enjoying your weekend. I realise that there are many limitations in place for how we can actually fill our time at the moment - but all the same, I hope that you’re enjoying some r & r.
I’ve actually had a somewhat busy week with one thing and another - I can’t go into details at the moment, but I’ll aim to update you all at a later date (oh the suspense!). Outside of that, as usual, I’ve spent a good chunk of my time working, watching tv, reading, learning, walking and relaxing. With that, I thought I’d update you again on some things I’ve been loving over the past couple of weeks;
On the screen;
Spiral continues to be my go to tv fix right now. There’s 8 series, so plenty to get my teeth into!
The Great Pottery Throw Down is back and my god - it’s just the most feel good show ever. Keith’s tears and passion over a piece of pottery genuinely make me want to well up. We all need a bit of escapism at the moment, and pottery throwdown is superior to bake off (in my humble opinion!).
I’ve also just started watching It’s a Sin on Channel 4. I’m only on the first episode, but I’ve heard great things. Looking forward to getting stuck in!
On Spotify;
As I write this, I have the Blade Runner soundtrack on in the background. I particularly love ‘Rachel’s Song’, ‘Love Theme’ & ‘One More Kiss, Dear’. The whole album is so atmospheric and beautiful. If you love the film, I’d recommend giving it a whirl. If you haven’t seen the film - get that sorted!
That’s my quick updates for this week - I received a couple of positive messages about this from the last post, so I think I’ll keep doing it!
And so on to today’s outfit post. In all honesty, I’ve not been very adventurous with my style over the last couple of weeks. I’ve been throwing on jeans, a jumper, and I’m ready to rock and roll. I’m keen to showcase outfits that I’ve genuinely been wearing and loving on my blog, so with that, I thought I’d show you guys a proper basic but foolproof outfit of mine for this time of year - a stripey top and a good pair of denim jeans!
Yes, I’m back in my conservatory for these photos. Yes, I’m running out of new spots for where I can take outfit photos that isn’t outdoors! In all honesty, the lighting in the room is really beautiful at this time of year (for those 5 mins we actually get some sunshine).
This top is a fairly recent purchase from Zara (when we were able to go in to shops back in December). I saw this in store and knew immediately that I had to get my hands on it. It reminds me of a very similar top I had a few years back from H&M, which I wore to death and eventually had to get rid of. It’s 100% cotton, and is a fairly loose fit.
Anyone that knows me will be aware of the fact that I’m a sucker for a stripe. I have multiple in my wardrobe, in a variety of different colours - I just don’t think you can go wrong with them. They help to pull an outfit together and require absolutely minimal effort (my favourite combo!). I decided to chuck on one of my favourite high neck white t-shirts underneath (another Zara purchase). I get so much wear out of this bad-boy - I should invest in some other colours! Having the high-neck of this t-shirt showing under the top just helps to make you look that wee bit more put together, and also adds an additional layer to fight off the cold weather.
As usual, I’ve paired the top with my favourite pair of jeans - the Levis ribcage straight legs. Side note - I’ve been machine washing these (on a very light cycle), and they’ve been coming out absolutely fine. I know that it can sometimes be a bit unclear with jeans, so thought some might be interested to know!
What else can I say about these jeans that I’ve not already bored you all with .. they’re just perfect. The fit, the length, the high waist, the colourway, the quality … I just can’t recommend them enough. As a genuine jean addict, these are the best pair I’ve ever come across and I can totally see myself getting these in more than one colour going forward.
I’m also wearing a couple of new pieces of jewellery with this outfit, both of which were very generous Christmas presents. First off is a beautiful pair of gold earrings my sister got me from Missoma. They’re from the Lucy Williams x 1987 collection, which are pieces inspired by Lucy’s mums jewellery from the 80's. These earrings genuinely conjured up the same memories for me when I first saw them - my mum has a very similar pair of gold earrings in her collection, which means there’s real sentimental value here. They also just go with everything, and are going to be an everyday earring for me going forward.
Next is an amazing ring that Calum gave me for Christmas. It’s from Orelia Jewellery and comes in an amazing panther design. The eyes are emerald green and it just spoke to me! This is the first time I’ve had anything from Orelia Jewellery, and I’m very impressed with the quality of the piece. It’s something a bit different which slots nicely in to my collection, with a little bit of sparkle.
So there we have it guys - a super simple but wearable outfit which I hope offers you a little bit of inspiration on those days where you open the wardrobe and think .. I have nothing to wear. As long as you have a striped top, a good pair of jeans and some jewellery, you’re good to go in my opinion! Items are linked down below, as always.
I’ll be back in touch in a couple of weeks with my next blog-post. In the meantime, don’t forget to look out for more regular updates across my social media channels (links on top right hand side of this page). I hope you all manage to have a lovely couple of weeks - stay safe.
Lots of love,
El xxx
