Mini Series: Staying Stylish for Winter, Part 2
Happy Sunday you lovely lot. How are we doing? I really hope that you’re all now managing to start the Christmas wind-down and that you’re getting those festive feelings! What have I been up to since my last blog-post? In all honesty, not a lot, other than trying to relax as much as possible and get into the Christmas spirit!
In other news, Calum released an EP on Friday 4th December, titled A View From the Notebooks. I really urge you to go and check it out on Spotify if you are able to. Calum has written, recorded, produced and marketed his latest EP on his own (so proud). If you search Calum Baird on Spotify, you’ll find it there - it's a good'un!
So this week I’m back with part 2 of my mini series on staying stylish for winter. This time we’re talking all about my top winter fashion picks - yes, I’m dipping my toe into the world of trends. With this slightly new format, there won’t be the usual garden photos of me styling up outfits for you (you’ll all be delighted to hear)! Instead, I’ll chat a little bit about my 3 winter fashion picks, and link out to a pinterest board where you guys can take a look at what I’m talking about. I’ll also link some options at the bottom of this blog-post for anything that I already own (as always). So without further ado, I’ll get cracking -
Chunky boots
It goes without saying that a good boot is essential for winter, and this year, brands really seem to have upped the ante by bringing out loads of fun and interesting chunky boots. Characteristics of these boots often include a thick sole or platform - they’re also usually made from very durable materials. Similarly, they tend to be quite tight on the ankle and leg, which creates a really flattering shape. Luckily, all of this means that we’re seeing chunky boots that are fashion forward, but also (importantly) comfortable, which is why they are coming out at the top of my list!
I’ve just managed to get my hands on the perfect pair of chunky black boots from M&S (that store always delivers the goods!). I’ll link them down below. I’ve also seen loads of beautiful pairs across & Other Stories, Zara, and ASOS. I think that these would look really smart styled up with a skinny jean and big piece of knitwear. Alternatively, you could rock these with a slip-dress and tights for the ultimate smart/casual look. I’m looking forward to styling these boots, and I’m sure they’ll be coming to a blog-post near you soon!
Knitted vests
It’s no secret that I’ve loved rocking a knitted vest this autumn-winter, and it's been great to see the different styles and shapes coming out over the last few months. These can range from your traditional tight knitted vest, to cricket style oversized vests, roll-neck vests, cable knit vests, argyle print vests, and many many more - the list and options are endless, meaning that there’s something for everyone!
I’ve already got a couple of these in my wardrobe which you may have spotted in previous blog-posts. Honestly, I just think that they add such a fun and additional layer to almost any outfit, and are key for styling up your winter 2020/2021 looks. If I’m opting to wear my slightly tighter fitted knit, I tend to wear a nice white shirt underneath to smarten the look up. Alternatively if I’m opting to wear my oversized cricket style vest, I often pair it with a high-neck top - it’s a perfect combination! My knitted vest collection is most definitely going to see me in to 2021.
Puffer coats
I am VERY much embracing the move towards the puffer jacket and have worn hardly anything else since I got mine in October. I mean, who doesn’t love a michelin man look? Again, there are a variety of styles within this trend, which means that there’s always going to be something for you to get on board with. Number one on my list of criteria is a hood (I live in Scotland - this is an essential), and second is comfort. My Zara puffer jacket delivers both of those things in spades, which I’ll link down below.
I’ve also been seeing brands bringing out full-length versions of the puffer jackets which look great. You’re essentially wearing a duvet as your piece of outerwear, which I take absolutely no issue with. This look will go with pretty much everything in your wardrobe, and adds volume/texture to any outfit. I’ll pull together all of the different styles on my Pinterest Board, so that you guys can take a look!
So there we have it - my three top winter fashion picks for 2020. I really hope that this mini-series has helped you to feel a bit more inspired about some of the pieces in your winter wardrobe, and also offered some guidance on how to style them up in a new way going forward. Thank you again for your continued support with my blog - it really is so so appreciated. I’ll be back in a couple of weeks with my next post, which I hope you’re all looking forward to! In the meantime, have a wonderful festive break - man, we deserve it. Here's to 2021!
Lots of love,
Ellie xx
