27 Things about El

Well hello guys! How are we all? I hope you’re having a lovely, relaxing weekend.  As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, there was no blog-post from me last Sunday as I was celebrating my 27th birthday! Big big thank you to everyone that got in touch to wish me a happy birthday, ya babes! I had a really lovely chilled day - it was filled with fresh air, cake, and being surrounded by my loved ones.  What could be better!

With that recent milestone in mind, I thought it would be nice for me to sit and a have think about 27 things that I’ve learned about myself over the years.  Some of these are somewhat run of the mill, but there’s a couple of things that you may not have been expecting! I thought that this would also be a chance for you guys to get to know me a bit better, particularly if you’re new here.  So, in no particular order, away we go:

  1. The last few years (and 2020 in particular) have taught me that I am much more resilient than I previously thought I was.  I’m stronger than I think.

  2. I am a very trusting person.

  3. Alongside that, I am also very loyal.  I’d like to think that any of my nearest and dearest would confirm that.

  4. I often strive for perfection.  This obviously isn’t always achievable or realistic, which can lead to feelings of anxiety and stress.  It’s something that I’ve struggled with a lot this year, and has led me to make some dramatic changes in my life, particularly in the way that I approach things.

  5. If I’m presented with something that is making me stressed or anxious, writing it down and trying to tackle the reasons behind those feelings automatically makes me feel better.  Writing is oddly cathartic, and is probably why I’ve been enjoying this blog so much!

  6. I’m sure this is true of pretty much anyone, but I really love to travel.  You often build your year around little holidays and breaks, so that’s something that I’ve really missed in 2020 - it’s been the real kicker for me.

  7. I’ve realised that it doesn’t actually take a lot to make me feel genuinely happy and content.  I’ve not struggled through the limitations of covid as much as I thought I would.

  8. Being by the water makes me so incredibly happy.  There’s something so therapeutic about it.   Get me to Cornwall ASAP!

  9. I have always badged myself as a city girl.  I’m beginning to realise that this maybe isn’t actually the case.  I’ve been thoroughly enjoying a slightly slower pace of life being outside of the city centre, and am continuously yearning for walks by the sea, or in the countryside.

  10. Saying that, if you've been following me on social media for a while, you’ll be aware of my love for Berlin.  That has not ever faltered - I’ve loved it ever since my first visit and will continue to go whenever I can. I miss the people, the vibe, the architecture, the history, the food, the bars, THE BEER! It almost feels like a home away from home now, yet I still get as excited at the prospect of visiting as I did the first time I went.

  11. I’m definitely a crier.

  12. Having a creative outlet is so important to me.  For too long, I didn’t put enough time in to myself.  Having this blog, using my instagram a bit more, and getting more in to photography has brought me so much joy.  I honestly don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner.  If you’re thinking about doing something similar, just go for it! There will always be a reason not to, but there will also always be more reasons to actually just give it a bash.

  13. I’m trying my best to get off the fast fashion merry go round.

  14. Saying that, jeans are my absolute fashion weakness.  Catch me in the jeans section of any website or store. The hunt for the perfect straight leg jean is something that fellow jean addicts can probably identify with. Sidenote - I think I may have found a new fav pair! & Other Stories always deliver.

  15. I thrive so much better in small group gatherings or with one other person.

  1. The December 2019 General Election taught me that whilst I might not be the most articulate or eloquent person when discussing politics, I am determined to do what I can to help fight for just, socialist causes.  I still feel distraught that Labour didn’t win, and get frustrated at what could have been.  The result cut me real deep, but we move on.  We keep doing what we can to eradicate right-wing extremists in positions of political power.  These people take up too much mainstream media space and are now presented as legitimate - it should not be allowed to continue.

  2. Film is probably my favourite form of relaxation.  There’s nothing I love more than getting settled down for the evening with a good old movie.

  3. Despite my best attempts, I need to accept that I will always struggle with headaches.

  4. Girl, keep to a somewhat regimented skincare regime.  Your sensitive, dehydrated skin needs it.

  5. Swimming is my favourite form of exercise.  I think I’m naturally quite a strong swimmer.  I also love nipping into the sauna/steam room after!

  6. Following on from that, I also need to accept that I’m just never going to be one of those people that adores exercise (apart from swimming).  It just ain’t for me.

  7. I really do feel passionate about fashion.  It’s been my main focus on this platform, because it’s the thing that I enjoy writing about the most (at the moment, anyway!).

  8. Whilst I definitely have ‘people pleaser’ tendencies and will always worry a wee bit about what other people think, I’m getting better at being my own person and not seeking everybody’s approval all of the time.

  9. I’m a listener.  Listening and communication is key in any relationship.

  10. I’m really trying to do what I can to reduce my meat intake.

  11. I don’t demand a lot from other people.  I’m very flexible (perhaps too flexible!), and instead make demands on myself - oh we're getting real deep here!

  12. I always like to have fresh flowers and candles in my bedroom.

So there we have it, 27 things that I’ve learned about myself over the years.  I hope you’ve enjoyed this one - it’s something a little different for me, and definitely more personal.  I think I might continue to do this every year going forward! I’d be really interested to hear some of the things you’ve learned about yourself over the years.  Comment below, or maybe I’ll do a Q&A over on Instagram!   The links to my outfit in this post are linked below.  As always, it would mean the world if you could share this post with literally EVERYONE you know 😉

Thanks again guys - take care, and speak next week!

Lots of love,

El x
