Three ways to style your formal blazer

Hi everyone.  Happy Sunday - I can’t believe it’s that time of the week again.  I hope you’re all having relaxing weekends, and are managing to find some sense of normality during these very strange and unsettling times (particularly in light of the most recent covid-19 developments).  My week has been fairly run-of-the-mill, but I’m totally ok with that these days. What has everyone been up to? Comment below!

Ok, I know I keep banging on about my M&S blazer, but I honestly just can’t get enough of it.  If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that I ventured into the world of Instagram ‘Reels’ this week, and showcased how I would style this blazer in three ways.  It seemed to go down really well - so, here we are with a complimentary and more fleshed out blog-post to go alongside it! I hope you enjoy it.

Day-wear

I realise that I’m committing multiple outfit-repeat offences with this look, but this genuinely is all of the pieces that I’m reaching for regularly at the moment.  My new H&M knitted vest sits so nicely underneath the blazer of dreams, as does my high-necked Zara t-shirt (I wear this all the time!).  If you like the knitted vest and would like more details on it, please do go and check out my blog-post on it from last week  Anyway, moving on, with the knitted vest and t-shirt, I’ve gone for my trusty BDG jeans from Urban Outfitters, a funky sock (love), and my good old white converse.  For me, this is an outfit of staples, and is perfect for a day out wandering. Get a nice bag and some shades to go along with it, and you’re all set.

Office-wear

This is for those of you who don’t work in a super corporate environment.  I really wanted to show you how this blazer can be smartened up a bit, without going for the full-on suit vibes (saying that, I really do wish that I had the matching trousers for this jacket!).  I’ve done the jacket up for this one, just to give you a sense of how it looks.  It still sits beautifully and the fit/comfort isn’t compromised at all.  Underneath, I’ve chucked on a blue cotton shirt from H&M, which I think really compliments the colour of the jacket, and also thrown on my JW Pei bag (again, serial outfit repeater I know).  With that, I’m debuting my good old zalando leopard print boots.  They’re starting to look a bit battered and have definitely seen better days, but my god - I have got so much wear out of these bad boys, and have had them since 2016.  Wearing leopard print accessories is a great way of starting to inject a bit of pattern in to an otherwise simple outfit, and who doesn’t love a bit of leopard print?!

Evening-wear

On the rare occasion that I do make a wee bit of an effort, I always like to stick to what I feel good and comfortable in.  With that usually comes a midi-dress, some tailoring, and a strappy shoe - voila!

Anyway, I think this ensemble works well, and makes me feel very put together.  I saw Megan Ellaby in this polka-dot topshop dress a few years ago, and knew immediately that I had to get it! The style and silhouette is so so flattering - it’s skims over your body, and leaves you feeling your absolute best.  I’ve worn this piece to death, and it will be an item of clothing that I have in my wardrobe for a very long time.  The strappy mules are from M&S as well (super comfortable but pretty).  The green in the shoes picks up the green in the dress, and is one of my favourite colours.

So, there we have it guys - three ways to style your formal blazer.  I hope that this blog-post has helped to showcase the versatility of the piece, and has given you all some inspiration for how to rock your much-loved blazer going forward.  All of my outfit details can be found below (or alternatives where items are no longer available).

Let me know if there are any other things you’d like to see from me on here - I’m very open to suggestions.  As always, if you could share this with your friends and loved ones, I would be forever grateful. You should also head on over to my instagram page (elmcc), and check out the Instagram Reel that prompted this blog-post/give me a follow! You can definitely expect to see more Reels from me going forward - it was so much fun to film, and I have a few ideas about some content that I’d like to make next time.

Chat again next Sunday! Lotsa love,

Ellie x
