Anyone for cricket?

Hi gang - happy Sunday.  How are we all? I hope you’ve all had a really lovely weekend and managed to enjoy the semi-sunny weather that we’ve been having (up in Scotland anyway).  I got my first round of film back for my 35mm camera this week - I must admit, there’s not many gems in there (I was really using that first roll to experiment with the flash etc.), but it’s still something that I’m definitely going to keep doing.  There’s something really nice about waiting to get your developed film back, and to get a wee surprise when you see the results.  Watch this space - you may see some of my shots over the coming months!   I also got my hair cut on Thursday - I was brave and got it chopped to collarbone length, eek - pretty pleased with the results, I must admit (not pictured below!).  I feel like my hair was really needing a bit of tlc,  so this was very much needed - sidenote; is there any better smell than professionally washed and cut hair? I genuinely don’t think there is!

Anyway, enough about that.  This week, I wanted to have a quick chat about a couple of new items in my wardrobe I’ve been loving, and show you how I’ve been styling them.  The items in question are this knitted vest top, and this beautiful cross-body bag:

With the cold weather and darker nights starting to roll in, layering will inevitably start becoming super important.  This vest is the perfect transitional piece, and is great for throwing on top of a short sleeve t-shirt, or long sleeve top.  I now own 2 knitted vest tops (lol - who would have thought), and have been getting so much wear out of them.  I genuinely feel like I’m off to a game of cricket when I wear this particular vest, and multiple people have commented on that fact - I’m totally taking it as a compliment, and will definitely be wearing this consistently over the winter months.  It’s from H&M, and I am really impressed with the quality.  For reference - this is a pretty oversized garment.  I went for an XS, and it still feels nice and loose.  Definitely size down and it’ll still create the silhouette that you’re after.

I’ve thrown this autumnal coat over the top - it was part of the Alexa Chung collaboration with Marks & Spencers from a few years ago.  I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of this coat.  It’s perfect for this time of year, when things start to get a bit more chilly (but it’s definitely not a full blown winter coat).  Whilst you obviously can’t find this in store anymore, I’ve seen a couple floating about on ebay, so do have a look on there if you’re interested. I’ll also pop some alternatives down below (along with all of my outfit details).

So, next we move on to the bag.  It’s from JW PEI - a brand that I hadn’t heard of  before.  Again, I am so impressed with the quality of this.  It’s vegan leather, and I went for the croc-effect style, which lends itself nicely to this time of year.  Whilst you might not be able to fit masses into this bag, there’s ample room for all of your basics (purse, keys, phone etc.).  I think it adds a real point of interest to an outfit, and I love where it sits when I have it cross-body.  Also, for reference, the strap is very comfortable - I wore it last week in town for a full day’s wandering, and I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all.

These two pieces are so easy to style, and I just know that I’m going to get so much wear out of them over the next few months.  I’ve been seeing quite a lot of brands doing similar styles of knitted vests (and I know H&M had quite a few options in store), so do keep an eye out.  I just honestly can’t believe that we’re nearly at the end of September already and knitwear is becoming essential again - how and when did that happen?!

Anyway, I really hope that you’ve enjoyed this week's blog-post guys.  Let me know if there’s anything in particular that you’d like to see from me on here - I’m always very open to tips and suggestions! As I say, all of my outfit details can be found below, as can all of my social media channels.  As always, it would mean the world if you could share this post, and tell all your pals about it!

Lots of love,

Ellie x
